Early harp opportunities in Verona and Palermo

If you are interested in Baroque and Renaissance harp, Loredana Gintoli has some vacancies in her classes at the Conservatoire Dall'Abaco, Verona, and Conservatoire V. Bellini, Palermo. There are three types of course available: a three-year standard degree, a two-year experimental degree, and also a one- or two-year flexible course. Italian tuition fees are still relatively low, so it is a good chance to expand your professional options in a manageable and flexible way.  

Applications are due by the end of April, and auditions will take place some time before the academic year begins in November. Course prerequisites are good performing skills on a polyphonic instrument, plus good knowledge of harmony.

September Harp Weekend, Saltaire, UK

 

The second week of September offers a good opportunity to immerse yourself in harp music, early and modern, in West Yorkshire - not to mention getting your Camac harp serviced, and checking out our exhibition! Camac France are sponsoring a harp weekend organised by the Early Music Shop, starring Louise Thompson and Sarah Deere-Jones. Our commercial director Eric Piron will also be there with one of our technicians, so you are warmly invited to bring your harp for overhaul and servicing, and/or for advice on maintenance and choosing a harp. 

The weekend is particularly suitable for keen amateur harpists, with a diverse programme of events open to all ages and stages. Professionals, too, will find much to enjoy in the recitals and lectures, so by all means come with your students as well as tell them to go!

Sarah will give workshops on Medieval / Tudor and lever harp music, as well as perform a recital on Gothic, Medieval and lever harps, and give an illustrated talk about the harp's history. Louise will run a children's workshop, and play the weekend's opening recital on September 7th.

Camac Voice, May 2012: Véronique Musson-Gonneaud

 

The early harp specialist Véronique Musson-Gonneaud has just released a new album: “Pour un plaisir: Intabulations by Antonio de Cabezón and his contemporaries" (Brilliant Classics 94351). It’s an atmospheric window on the dignified music of the Renaissance Spanish court – Antonio de Cabezón, Juan de de Cabezón, Hernando de Cabezón, Francisco Fernández Palero, an original piece for the harp by Alonso Mudarra (ironically, his more-performed Fantasia is originally for vihuela), and two anonymous works, all played by Véronique on Renaissance double harp.
