For all who want to play jazz but don't know where to start, Felice Pomeranz has released an excellent new book - Harp in the Band.
The book gives you sixteen new tunes to learn - a mixture of standards and original compositions - and offers voicing and comping suggestions so you can build your improvisation skills. There is even a play-along CD so you can practise what you have learnt in the context of a jazz ensemble.
If you are a complete jazz beginner, take a look at Felice's DVD Jazzy Beginnings: An Introduction to Jazz Harp. You only need a basic knowledge of scales, keys and beginning chords to start with this, and learn how to play in a groove, and about chords, voicings, scales and pedaling. Like Harp in The Band, Jazzy Beginnings also has a helpful companion, in the form of a workbook that can be downloaded online.
